The toco toucan, also called "Ramphastos toco" is one of the most iconic species of the toucan family. Recognizable by its enormous bright orange beak, which can measure up to 20 cm long, this bird weighs only about 500 grams. Its plumage is predominantly black, with a contrasting white throat, accentuated by a blue circle around the eyes. This impressive beak, despite its massive appearance, is surprisingly light thanks to its hollow structure. The toco toucan mainly inhabits the tropical and subtropical forests of South America, where it feeds mainly on fruits, but also on insects, eggs and small vertebrates. Due to its unique and colorful appearance, it has become a symbol of the biodiversity of tropical forests, while playing a crucial role in seed dispersal, thus contributing to forest regeneration.
