The bearded saki monkey (Chiropotes satanas), also known as the black saki monkey, is a primate native to the tropical forests of the Amazon, mainly in Brazil. It is easily recognizable by its dense black fur and long bushy tail, as well as the distinctive beard that adorns its face.
These arboreal monkeys live in groups of 10 to 30 individuals and move quickly through the canopy. They are primarily frugivorous, feeding on fruit, but they also consume seeds, flowers, insects, and sometimes small vertebrates. Their powerful jaws allow them to break open hard fruit shells, a notable feature of their diet.
The bearded saki is currently classified as endangered due to the massive loss of its habitat caused by deforestation in the Amazon, as well as hunting.
